Helping Animals and New Research on T1 Diabetes
This is a double celebration! First, Kristie Sullivan, MPH, joins us we take a look back at how we were able to save the lives of thousands of animals over the last year—including ending deadly live animal labs for emergency medicine training at Vanderbilt University and paramedic training at the University of Washington. We also shut down lethal dog labs for veterinary training at Tuskegee University and Auburn University. In fact, the Physicians Committee is the only national group working to end “terminal” surgery labs in veterinary schools. That is why we need your support to continue our lifesaving work for both animals and humans. All donations will be matched up to $200,000 through Dec. 31. Also, “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll is joined by Dr. Hana Kahleova who is preparing to lead a study on the effect a plant-based diet may have on people with type 1 diabetes. A Doctor's Private Battle with Endometriosis and Journey Back to Health
While Dr. Asha Subramanian was helping her patients get well, she was quietly suffering through her own health struggles. She battled endometriosis from an early age, and the debilitating pain only grew worse with time. As a young doctor, the disease had grown so bad that she was told if she didn't have children in the near future she would risk never being able to get pregnant. The issues would continue for years as traditional therapies only provided scant relief. But she discovered that she could greatly improve her condition through food and began combining a plant-based diet with modern medicine. Finally, she found relief and was thrilled to become a proud parent of a healthy daughter. Dr. Subramanian opens up about her struggle for the first time in hopes of helping others facing the same challenges. She shares her secrets for defeating endometriosis with diet! Chuck also revisits a conversation with Dr. Neal Barnard in an Exam Room Rewind where Dr. Barnard delves into the story of an endometriosis patient who was in the middle of a hysterectomy when doctors declared she had been miraculously cured. Was it an actual miracle or was it the change she made to her diet that caused the disease to vanish? Eating Healthy at Restaurants Is Hard, Not Impossible
Here’s a scary fact. Only 1 out of every 1,000 meals served in restaurants qualifies as having “ideal” nutrition. Even scarier? Portion sizes at fast-food restaurants are three times larger than they were in 1950! Could it be that our obsession with eating out is actually making us sick and die younger? It may sound extreme, but given all of the fat, salt, sugar, and sodium being served, it is fair to wonder whether what you order is taking years off of your life. Dr. Vanita Rahman and Matthew Rees, editor of the Food and Health Facts newsletter and senior fellow at the Dartmouth Tuck School of Business, have the facts to back up that argument. They make the case that restaurants are playing an enormous role in the obesity epidemic when they join “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll. From an abundance of calories to a lack of fiber, they have the true effect of restaurant food covered from all angles! Plus, Chuck is joined by restaurateur Gregg Rozeboom, who is bucking the trend of enormous burgers and buckets of fries in favor of healthier options. Gregg is the founder of the plant-based oil-free restaurant chain Fruitive. He shares his philosophy that delicious food does not have to be detrimental to your health. Fruitive is proof that when it comes to healthy food, if you serve it, they will come. — — — Watch This Interview https://youtu.be/SJjeaTFPcBQ — — — Article: Are Restaurants Exacerbating the Obesity Epidemic? https://bit.ly/3mmphG0 — — — Fruitive Menu: https://fruitive.com/menu Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fruitive Twitter: https://twitter.com/fruitive Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fruitive — — — Dr. Vanita Rahman Simply Plant Based Cookbook: https://amzn.to/3zAu4YB Instagram: https://instagram.com/dr.vanita.rahman Twitter: https://twitter.com/DocVanita — — — Food and Health Facts Newsletter Web: https://foodandhealthfacts.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/FoodHealthFacts — — — Chuck Carroll Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ChuckCarrollWLC Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ChuckCarrollWLC Facebook: http://wghtloss.cc/ChuckFacebook — — — 21-Day Vegan Kickstart App iOS: https://bit.ly/VegKStrt-iOS Android: https://bit.ly/VegKStrtAndrd Web: https://www.pcrm.org/kickstart — — — Barnard Medical Center Appointments https://bit.ly/BMCtelemed 202-527-7500 — — — Share the Show Please subscribe and give the show a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or many other podcast providers.
